Stimulating ELS in Europe

ESELS Working Groups

Our Society welcomes the creation of thematic working groups in Empirical Legal Studies.

Working groups are expected to contribute to fruitful exchange and stimulation of empirical-legal research in areas relevant to a European audience of scholars.

Members of working groups must be members of our Society and are expected to 1) hold regular meetings or exchanges and 2) to organize at least one pre-arranged panel at each year’s conference.

Some examples of topics potentially interesting for ESELS working groups are: “Empirical Comparative Law”, “Large Language Models in Law”, “Empirical Constitutional Studies” or “AI and the Law”…

Proposals for ESELS working groups will be assessed and decided upon by the ESELS Executive Board (for any questions: contact@esels.eu).

We encourage submission of ELS working groups composed of scholars coming from various European countries and regions.

What is the time schedule to accomplish the stated aims and objectives above? Is there a scheme for regular meetings?
What is the promotional text that the ESELS Secretariat can use to publish on the ESELS website?
Are there concrete (non-financial) ways in which the ESELS Board can support your working group?
Add a co-chair?
Do you want to add an extra member?
Is your working group open to organize a pre-conference workshop?
Are all members of the working group registered as ESELS Member?
The panel chair is requested to make sure that all members register as ESELS member (as per statute).
